Kathmandu after the Quake, June 2015

On the road to Kathmandu some 7 weeks after the great quake. The prithivi highway, the only way as it happens between Pokhara and Kathmandu is picturesque and there is little evidence that there was an earthquake here except for the occasional pile of rubble.

Approaching Kathmandu and again there isn't evidence of the devastating earthquake that was portrayed so graphically among the worlds news channels. Occasional destruction, piles of rubble is observed as the bus trundles towards the tourist hotspot of Thamel.

Thamel is largely intact with water supplies, sewerage and electricity all working normally - even the wifi has a good speed on at the moment!

So, 7 weeks after the disaster life seems pretty normal for most folk around here,  but there are a significant number of residents without permanent accommodation. The parks are home to tented villages, kindly supplied by the Chinese it looks like.
