Kathmandu,rebuilding and coping, June 2015

With a few hours to kill before jetting out of Nepal bound for Kuala Lumpur, a stomp down to the New Road area of the city to observe life after the quake there. Early morning so the hustle and bustle normally associated with Kathmandu hasn't quite gained pace, so its a peaceful wander around the little streets and alleyways, looking at how locals are living some 7 weeks after the quake.

Here are some of the images depicting  life, hardship and poverty entwined with peace and spirituality, that's the face of Kathmandu's people as I see it right now.

School is in tents. Shoulder to shoulder students diligently writing, learning in the face of their difficulties. Krishna Dawadi, teaching class 10 the 'Theory of Economics' explains how the school building is badly damaged by the earthquake and schooling has to be held in these tents.

Nepal Earthquake, Durbar Square, June 2015

A quick stomp around the famous and historic Durbar Square reveals the extent of this disastrous earthquake. Architecture already crumbling had little chance of withstanding the rupture on April 25th just around noon when the place would have been packed with tourists and locals.

Here you can see that 7 weeks later, progress on repairing the temples and houses, not to mention the school is a slow business. So, just before sunset then, a selection of photos from quake hit Durbar Square.
